mindful

the practice of ‘mindfulness’ is not just reserved for cross-legged yogis! slowing down to the pace of life enables our awareness to center on the moment at hand, whether we are eating, moving, talking or resting. and that can bear fruit for our mental health, our digestion, our nervous system, and our quality of sleep and relationships.

mindfulness is a work in progress for me but i am gradually seeing how practising, practising and practising again is allowing me to be mindful more often.

the truth is; i love lists. on any given day i have a long list of tasks for the day, in addition to many mental notes that pop up and circulate in my head throughout the day, and often during the night. the logistics of who is going where, with who, what they are eating, what gear they will need is familiar to many. i don’t deny that planning is important, but i also know that my mind gets FULL and my health and productivity suffer.

i’m learning some strategies to help with the ‘lists’; prioritizing tasks,time-chunks during the day for chores/admin/correspondence, eliminating distractions (messages/emails etc), observing, then parking ideas when they emerge

i’m also learning to make space for short mindful practices to allow me to return (again and again), to the here and now. to set aside the mental chatter and tune in. this term i’ll be sharing some of those exercises in our yogawell community, so we can learn and share and practice together.

i hope you will join us in making space to be present in the days and weeks ahead - with a breath, a bite, a step, a smell, a mountain top or a smile with a stranger Xx
